Tool #2- PLN and Commenting

I believe that creating person learning networks are a great way for teachers to share ideas and a way to communicate with each other. A teacher is a life long learner and this would allow a perfect venue for a teacher to learn different tips and styles of teaching. A truly successful teacher needs to be open to other opinions and suggestions of fellow teachers. It is beneficial to everyone involved when a teacher has a community in which they can go to for different viewpoints being discussed. I have always looked for ways to find different ideas and suggestions for teaching and PLN is a perfect place for it!

I found that there were several points that stood out to me, but the one that I think is the most important to think about while commenting is to remember the power of words. I like how the Cool Cat teacher talked about the "Darth Commenter" and how people need to realize that when commenting to be kind. Words are very powerful and will stay with a person. PLN should be used to encourage, to provide positive feedback, and to give advice that will be helpful. They should not be used to tear down a person or an idea. As a teacher, I will make sure that my students understand that all comments will be kind and thoughtful of the blogger's feelings.

  1. You're so right about comments needing to be positive and encouraging. You'll see more about that later when you cover Tool #11 - Digital Citizenship. It's something we need to teach and model for our students.
